How do I get my site indexed/listed in the Search Engines? It is a search engines job to find your website and 99% of the time it will but there are ways to ensure they do. We have broken this section down into two categories Google and Bing to prevent confusion; ( these are the two major players - other search engines area also available to submit to) |
Google The first step is to get your website verified by Google - this means that you let Google know that your website belongs to you and they should let you know Google's view of your website and allow you to diagnose problems, discover your link and search traffic and most importantly allow you to share information about your website with them. You will need your Google Account details that you used in Step One.
You then need to use your Google account to activate the webmaster tools Google provides again this is free - you can do this using this link click here to go to Google Webmaster Tools. Add your website using the button and then under the heading Your Sites click on your website url to go through the verification process. This is where you will need access to your hosting or if you prefer your website html code once complete you will now have access to information about your website.
Note: if you are using and error 404 redirect you will need to use the meta verification method.
You also have the facilities here to upload a site map and create a robots text file.
